Spring Break was pretty incredible! A group of students and Staff spent a week interacting with Irish college students and exploring Ireland. Here are some student’s thoughts and insights from their time abroad!
A Time to Mourn and a Time to Dance || Ryan
We feel the ebb and flow of life every day. We bounce from stressful circumstances to joyful ones and back again, sometimes multiple times a day and seemingly for no reason. At times life just doesn't make sense, and it can be downright exhausting. But fortunately for us, we have God and His word to turn to when we need it most.
Dragon Skin || Emily
I really like dragons. This despite the fact that they don't have the greatest track record in some mythologies, and are often portrayed as greedy and ruthless. I suppose I prefer narratives that show them as wise and powerful. But I digress. One of my favorite stories involving a dragon is found in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis.
Sometimes Life Sucks || Dan
I’d hate to be Ryan Gosling right now!
I better say it while I can. As one of Hollywood’s leading men, he’s got a pretty sweet thing going for himself. But yesterday’s craziness at the final presentation of the Academy Awards left me feeling pretty bad for the guy. Gosling had just gotten done watching Casey Affleck win Best Actor award, for which he had been nominated. Then, in an unbelievable turn of events, he went from seeing his La La Land named Best Picture to standing dumbfounded on stage while witnessing firsthand the worst blunder in Oscar’s history.
We Found Love in a Hopeless Place || Patreeya Prasertvit
I grew up surrounded by unhealthy relationships. Up until the age of ten, I thought it was completely normal for dads to sleep on the couch and moms to cry in the closet. So I have spent my whole life trying to figure out what love is.
Disney ruined me early on with its picturesque happily-ever-afters where there’s a handsome prince and a beautiful princess and all they have to do to get together is defeat a dragon or an angry town mob. This is love, I thought: beautiful, perfect people finding each other in a hopeless place.
